Smile. It’s National Dental Hygiene MonthEighty-seven percent of primary caregivers agree that good dental care and good medical care are equally important, according to a recent survey of American children’s oral health conducted on behalf of Delta Dental Plans association. These findings coincide with National Dental Hygiene Month and recent discussions about mandating children’s dental insurance in health care reform legislation.
Since oral health is in the spotlight this month, I encourage you to evaluate your own. If you haven’t been to the dentist in awhile, make an appointment. Do you follow the recommended brushing and flossing guidelines? (For more information, see the U.S. Centers for Disease Control’s oral health fact sheets for adults and children. If not, make efforts to improve them.
And, finally, if you don’t have dental insurance, get a quote. Multiple studies show that those with dental insurance are more likely to visit the dentist regularly. Remember: Your oral health is a part of overall health!
